  • For many of us, water simply flows from a faucet, and we think little about it beyond this point of contact. We have lost a sense of respect for the wild river, for the complex workings of a wetland, for the intricate web of life that water supports. We have been quick to assume rights to use water, but slow to recognize obligations to preserve and protect it... Sandra Postel "Last Oasis, Facing Water Scarcity"

The EWUA Board has approved the development of a new well to serve the Association. The well is located on the property OPAL is developing along Mt. Baker Rd. across from the Orcas Island Medical Center.

Testing has indicated that the well will have the capacity to deliver over 100 gallons per minute, easily becoming the most productive well in the system. This well will help supply demand for new memberships, and will provide increased service reliability for existing members. As part of the design for bringing this well on line, a state of the art manganese filtration system is being incorporated. These filters are intended to improve water quality.

Efforts are being directed towards having this new well available for use this summer.

Eastsound business owners and homeowners should be applauded for their conservation efforts to reduce water consumption. See the latest newsletter for details.
