Purdue Reservoir is 50% of Eastsound Water’s capacity. Purdue is located at 1,000 ft. elevation up on Buck Mountain. This image was taken January 3. The reservoir has completely refilled, gaining about 7 feet of water depth since the October low point of the year. It is obviously frozen with the current cold spell.
Eastsound Water’s “winter intake” is safely on the bottom of the lake and the frozen surface does not impact getting water into the treatment plant.
Normally the lake remains “full” through the winter and spring until our withdrawal exceeds recharge sometime in May, and the annual drawdown cycle begins again.
